Common Questions

Runway is the number of months your startup can operate before running out of cash, assuming your current burn rate stays constant. It's calculated by dividing your cash balance by your monthly net burn (expenses minus revenue).

Most investors and advisors recommend maintaining 12-18 months of runway. Less than 6 months is typically considered critical and warrants immediate action like fundraising or cost cuts.

Net burn = Monthly Expenses - Monthly Revenue. If your revenue exceeds expenses (positive cash flow), your runway is theoretically infinite.

The biggest factors are: (1) Your current cash balance, (2) Monthly burn rate, (3) Revenue and growth rate. The calculator also lets you model planned hires and one-time expenses.
